With deep sorrow and anger, the Arab Council mourns the martyrdom of President Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, who was martyred this morning in the Iranian capital, Tehran, as a result of a cowardly Israeli terrorist airstrike.

The Arab Council extends its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the family of the martyr President, to the leaders and fighters of the movement, and to the Palestinian people at large.

The Council considers this heinous crime a new and dangerous chapter in the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and their leaders, both within Palestine and abroad. It reflects the criminal spirit of a rogue state that acts with impunity, supported by international backing, regional weakness, and Arab silence. The Council holds the Iranian authorities fully responsible for failing to provide the necessary security measures and adequate protection for the martyr.

May Allah have mercy on the martyr President, who was a symbol of steadfastness, wisdom, and patience. He dedicated his entire life to the Palestinian cause, sacrificing most of his family, and ultimately giving his pure soul in the service of Palestine.

To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.

On behalf of the Arab Council
President Moncef Marzouki
