The Arab Council strongly condemns the violent clashes that erupted this morning, Saturday, April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in several areas in Khartoum, including around the presidential palace, as well as other parts of the country, particularly the city of Meroe. These clashes have caused panic among unarmed civilians and led to their mass fleeing from the conflict zones, which have already begun to witness casualties.

The Arab Council calls on both parties to exercise restraint, end the fighting, and refrain from shedding blood or destroying infrastructure in a way that hinders the political solution and exacerbates the deepening crisis that has existed since the military coup on October 15, 2021.

The Council affirms that the only solution to the crisis facing brotherly Sudan is the prompt implementation of the political agreement reached and signed on December 5th of last year, in order to restore the path of democratic civilian transition and close the chapter of the coup and blatant foreign intervention.

Signed,
The Arab Council
President Moncef Marzouki
