On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the February 11th Revolution in beloved Yemen, and the accompanying events and movements within Yemen and among the diaspora, the Arab Council expresses:
- Its great pride in the February 11th youth-driven, peaceful revolution, which was a monumental event in the region. It demonstrated the maturity, civility, and determination of the Yemeni people in their commitment to freedom, democracy, dignity, and the establishment of a state based on law, just institutions, and full sovereignty.
- Its heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of the revolution, and all the martyrs of the homeland who have fallen during the past decade, in the various stages of aggression against the Yemeni people by the Houthi rebel militias, supported by remnants of the former regime, Iran, and the destructive and reckless war machine of the Saudi-Emirati coalition.
- Its full support for the efforts of the Yemeni national forces defending Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and freedom from foreign dominance and interventions aimed at dividing the country and exploiting its wealth and coasts. The foreign powers have used Yemen as a battlefield for regional power struggles that hold no interest for the Yemeni people.
- Its call for all political, civil, and human rights actors, as well as the living forces of the Yemeni people, to put aside their differences and come together on common ground, based on the values of February 11th, in order to meet the aspirations of the Yemeni youth who flooded the streets and squares in these days, 11 years ago, driven by the hope for change, reform, stability, and prosperity.
- It calls on the international community to take effective action to pressure the foreign powers fighting for Yemen’s land, interests, and wealth, to lift their hands off the Yemeni people and stop their reckless aggression. It also calls for the international prosecution of the major criminals who have committed heinous crimes against humanity in many parts of greater Yemen.
The Arab Council holds hope for an end to the war soon, and for the return of stability and hope to the great Yemeni people, a people of glory and noble history.
On behalf of the Arab Council
President: Mohamed Moncef Marzouki
