Following the Arab League’s rejection of a Palestinian resolution to condemn the UAE-Israel normalization agreement, the Arab Council calls upon the Arab peoples to consider the Arab League as a dead entity that has ended in both minds and hearts. There is no hope for its reform or revival as long as it remains under the control of the Arab dictatorships, which are subservient, lacking sovereignty, and disconnected from the values, aspirations, and expectations of their people.
The Arab Council believes that the Arab League has become a tool for imposing policies dictated by international hegemonic powers, aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, ensuring the continued dependency of the region’s regimes, and suppressing any sovereign, liberatory spirit within the entire Arab world.
The Arab Council calls on the free forces of the Arab nation to engage in a popular, civic effort to gradually establish the Union of Arab Peoples as an alternative to the dead Arab League. This effort should be based on open initiatives to connect these forces around common principles, which include the values of citizenship, sovereignty, dignity, Arab solidarity, the commitment to Palestinian rights, and the rejection of all forms of normalization and dependency.
On behalf of the Arab Council,
Dr. Mohamed Moncef Marzouki
