The Arab Council expresses its strong condemnation of the recent threats issued by the Egyptian regime against the legitimate Government of National Unity in brotherly Libya, accompanied by hints of military intervention following the defeat of Khalifa Haftar’s forces in western Libya. The Council considers these threats a blatant violation of international law and an infringement on the sovereignty of the Libyan people.

The Council believes that any questioning of the legitimacy of the Libyan government, which stems from the Skhirat Agreement and is recognized by the African Union and the United Nations, falls into the category of conspiring against the unity of Libyan territory and engaging in regional projects aimed at perpetuating the war in Libya, disrupting its political process, exploiting its resources, and using it as a platform to implement agendas that oppose the waves of liberation throughout the region.

The Council calls on all the living forces of the Arab nation to support the steadfastness of the Libyan people and stand by them in their efforts to resist partition schemes, protect their national sovereignty, and build a stable, democratic civil state under a consensual constitution that is subject to a national referendum by the entire Libyan people.

On behalf of the Arab Council,
Dr. Mohamed Moncef Marzouki
President of the Arab Council
