The Arab Council<\/strong> has been following and monitoring the proceedings of the historic trial of three senior security figures of the Syrian regime at the Court of Assizes<\/strong> in the French capital, Paris. The three accused (Ali Mamlouk, former head of the National Security Bureau, Jamil Hassan, former head of the Air Force Intelligence, and Abdul Salam Mahmoud, head of the Investigation Branch of the Air Force Intelligence at Mezzeh Military Airport) are fugitives from justice and have been charged with committing and conspiring to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, the Council issues a summary report on the proceedings of the trial.<\/p>\n

The Arab Council welcomes this decision<\/strong>, emphasizing the necessity of combating impunity and pursuing the perpetrators of these crimes, which do not lapse with the passage of time. The Council reiterates its demand for the freedom of the Syrian people, which cannot be achieved without holding those who committed these heinous violations of international humanitarian law accountable.<\/p>\n

The trial in absentia, held at the Court of Assizes in Paris from May 21 to 24, 2024, resulted in a historic life sentence verdict against three of the most significant senior security figures of the Syrian regime.<\/p>\n
