Under the patronage and in the presence of the former President of Tunisia, Dr. Moncef Marzouki, the President of the Arab Council, and with the participation of 40 members of the network, the first strategic meeting of the Arab Network for Combating Impunity was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 24, 2024, following its establishment.

During the meeting, the following topics were discussed:

  1. Enhancing Communication Between Arab Civil Society Organizations for Human Rights: The importance of fostering stronger networks and collaboration among human rights organizations in the Arab world.
  2. Reviewing the Activities Conducted by the Arab Network for Combating Impunity: An overview of the network’s previous efforts and actions towards addressing impunity in the region.
  3. Presenting and Discussing Proposals and Future Work Strategies, including the 2024 Annual Plan: Strategies were presented to strengthen the network’s impact in the coming year.
  4. Proposals for Developing Current Approaches and Methodologies: Recommendations for improving the existing working methods and approaches within the network.
  5. Creating a Strategic Plan Focusing on Key Human Rights Issues in the Arab Region: The plan emphasizes basic individual rights, including civil, political, economic, and social rights, to be prioritized in future advocacy efforts.
  6. Discussion of the State of Freedom and Human Rights in the Arab World, including the Annual Report: A review of the situation of freedoms and human rights across the region, highlighting areas of concern.

Additionally, a Monitoring Committee was elected to follow up on the results of the strategic meeting and ensure that the agreed-upon actions are implemented effectively.
