His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres,
Secretary-General of the United Nations,
Greetings. I would like to express, on my personal behalf and behalf of the Arab Council, my deep appreciation and gratitude for your personal stance and the United Nations’ position regarding the unjust war in Gaza and the massacres and disasters it has caused to innocent civilian citizens. We greatly admire your commitment to peace and justice, your concern for the protection of civilians, and your efforts to ensure the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict by international legitimacy and United Nations resolutions.
In this regard, we extend our heartfelt solidarity with you against the aggressive attacks on your person and the calls for your resignation by Israeli officials, in conjunction with punitive actions against United Nations staff.
Mr. Secretary-General of the United Nations,
The tragic events in Gaza have resulted in immense losses among Palestinian civilians who have endured decades of blockade and oppression by an unjust occupying state that neither recognizes human rights nor international resolutions. The death toll has exceeded 9,500 individuals to date, including over 3,700 children and 2,300 women. Approximately 25,000 people have been wounded, some with severe disabilities, as the medical infrastructure in Gaza collapses due to direct and merciless targeting and the oppressive blockade.
Furthermore, civilian infrastructure is intentionally targeted daily, exacerbating the difficulties faced by the population. In addition, approximately one and a half million civilians in Gaza have been displaced to the border areas with Egypt without access to food, water, electricity, or essential humanitarian services.
It is not hidden from you that all of these crimes constitute severe violations of international law in both its aspects, international humanitarian law and international human rights law. There is no dispute in categorizing them as war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Expressing our deep concern over these crimes and our profound anger regarding their appalling human cost, we hope for urgent and meaningful steps from you to halt them immediately, provide the necessary humanitarian assistance to the affected, and supply the besieged area with water, food, medicines, and the essentials of life such as electricity and fuel, among other things. We also hope for a thorough investigation into these crimes to determine responsibility and hold those responsible accountable.
Mr. Secretary-General of the United Nations,
History will inscribe in golden letters the efforts of those who work tirelessly to end the unjust war on Gaza, to save its people from intentional killing and destruction, and to restore the denied rights of the Palestinian people, as stipulated by countless United Nations resolutions that have remained unimplemented due to the absence of international will. History will also record the involvement of those who directly support or contribute to the deadly silence in the massacres committed against children, women, and the elderly in the martyred Gaza.
We hope that history will record your significant role in halting the war, saving the lives of civilians, and achieving peace while ensuring the implementation of United Nations resolutions that guarantee the rights of Palestinians to security, stability, sovereignty, and the establishment of their independent state.
Thank you once again for your efforts and dedication, and we wish you success in all your endeavors.
With sincere appreciation,
the President of the Arab Council,
Dr. Moncef Marzouki
