In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria at dawn today, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of citizens in both countries, injuring thousands, and causing extensive damage, with the death toll still expected to rise, the Arab Council expresses its solidarity with the Syrian and Turkish people, extending its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

The Council calls upon the international community in general and the Arab countries in particular to contribute to the efforts of rescuing the missing and trapped individuals and providing shelter to those who have lost their homes, while activating the principle of Arab and humanitarian solidarity.

Our hearts go out to the Syrian people who are suffering in this new ordeal, with all our hopes for the return of stability, prosperity, and freedom to our beloved Syria.
