The Arab Council expresses its full solidarity with the Iranian people, including all their ethnic, religious, and cultural components, both men and women, across all regions of Iran, in their peaceful, growing protests that were ignited by the tragic killing of Kurdish young woman Mahsa Amini during her arrest by the morality police in Tehran.

The Council believes that the rapid spread of the protests reflects the widespread public anger in Iran against the oppressive policies of the ruling regime towards citizens demanding freedom and equality, especially women who suffer from policies of oppression and discrimination.

The Council condemns the Iranian regime’s resort to extreme violence against protesters, including abductions and killings, under a complete media blackout, increasing censorship, and restrictions on the virtual space.

The Council affirms that the oppressive Iranian regime will pay the price for its crimes against its own people and the people of the region. The spring of liberation that it fought violently against in the Arab countries will bloom in Tehran, ending the expansionist sectarian dictatorship, and paving the way for the establishment of a democratic system that guarantees freedom and equality for its people and respects the sovereignty of its neighbors.

On behalf of the Arab Council
President: Mohamed Moncef Marzouki
