The Arab Council expresses its full solidarity with the Tunisian people in their struggle to restore the democratic path, which was disrupted by Kais Saied, the President of the Republic, who swore to respect the constitution but then unilaterally overturned it without consulting any internal forces, coordinating instead with regional and international powers.

The Council believes that the repeated and growing mobilizations by Tunisians to defend the constitution and reject dictatorship and one-man rule dismantle the claims of the coup’s popularity and Kais Saied’s monopoly over the will of the people. They also reflect the determination of the majority of Tunisians to maintain the democratic system, the rule of law, and institutions, and their rejection of the chaotic political model that Saied seeks to impose.

The Council calls on the living forces of the Tunisian people to hold on to their democratic path, the gains of freedom, and their demands for change, dignity, and the severing of ties with the corruption and chaos that have marred the Tunisian experience, all within the framework of peaceful resistance and respect for the constitution and institutions. This should continue until the failure of the coup and the resumption of the democratic path with necessary reforms. Such efforts will provide a new momentum for the Arab Spring across the region, which yearns for freedom, dignity, and sovereignty.

On behalf of the Arab Council
Ms. Tawakkol Karman, Vice President
Dr. Ayman Nour, Vice President
